Who is Dealer Educator™?

Dealer Educator™ is a DMV-authorized training provider dedicated to helping individuals obtain their Wholesale or Retail Dealer License in California. We offer comprehensive Pre-License and Continuing Education (CE) Training courses that meet the Dealer Education Program requirements set by the California DMV. Also, we provide the necessary education to guide you through the licensing process and ensure you are fully prepared to start your dealership business.
What are the two types of Dealer Licenses available?
There are two main types of dealer licenses:
- Wholesale Dealer License: This license allows you to buy and sell vehicles at wholesale prices, but only to other licensed dealers.
- Retail Dealer License: This license allows you to sell vehicles directly to the public. It also includes the ability to offer financing and warranty services.
Additionally, there is an Auto Broker Endorsement, which allows dealers to work as intermediaries between buyers and sellers without holding inventory.
Is the training conducted online or in-person?

The training is conducted entirely online, allowing you to complete it at your own pace.

- Wholesale Dealer License only requires a home office or garage.

Can I obtain a Dealer License with a criminal record?
Yes, you can still get a dealer license in California with a Felony or Misdemeanor conviction.
- The DMV does not require you to report convictions that occurred more than 10 years ago.
- Traffic offenses, including DUI convictions, do not need to be disclosed.
- Failing to disclose a prior felony conviction could result in a lifetime ban from obtaining a license.
- Keep in mind, the DMV evaluates each case individually based on these guidelines.
How long are the courses?
The course length depends on the type of license you're pursuing:
- Pre-Licensing Course (New Dealers): This is a 6-hour DMV-required course, available fully online. It covers everything needed to prepare for your dealer license exam.
- Continuing Education Course (License Renewal): This is a 4-hour course, also available 100% online, designed to help you stay compliant and renew your license with ease.
